The "Stewarts Insititute"

The Stewarts institute, established in 1869 by Dr. Henry Hutchinson Stewart, seemed to have played an important role in the lives of the Warnock’s from 1870 to 1916. We’re not sure of her condition but Louisa spent some or most of her life at the Institute and died there in 1891. Charles daughter Dorothy, also spent some of her life there as it is the place of death in 1916. FH Warnock also made a small bequeath from his will in 1933 to the Institute. From what can be found Dorothy, the daughter of Charles and Elisabeth, lived with her uncle and aunt for some time as the census of 1901 show.

history

Stewarts was established in 1869 in Dublin, as an institution to provide for the Education, Training and Maintenance of children with a mental handicap from throughout the island of Ireland. It derives its name from its founder, Dr. Henry Hutchinson Stewart, who was born in Dublin in June 1798. He was the son of a Rector of Donabate Parish, North Co. Dublin. Henry came late to medicine - he took his M.D. when he was 31 years of age. One year later, he married Eliza Going, a clergyman's daughter. The couple had no children.
