Betty was born in 1922. Betty's father is Neil V O'Loughlin and her mother was Mary Ethel Emery Butler. Her maternal grandparents were James Patrick Butler and Mary Jane Gillen. She had three brothers and five sisters, named Laurie, Tony, Brian, Moira, Sheila, Patricia, Philomena and Andrena. She is the fourth youngest of the nine children.
