William Simmons was born in 1893 in Geraldton, Western Australia, Australia. William Simmons' father was Michael Meginess and his mother was Martha Bunter. His paternal grandparents were Patrick McGuinness and Jane Margaret Morgan. He had four brothers and four sisters, named Michael, Luke, Patrick, Donald Ralph, Sarah Jane, Elizabeth Ellen, Annie Regan and Mary. He was the fourth youngest of the nine children. He died at the age of 24 on April 13th, 1917 in France.
