John Cornelius was born on March 12th, 1832 in Chipping Camden, Gloucestershire, , England.  John Cornelius' father was Charles Manton and his mother was Mary Chamberlain.  His paternal grandparents were George Manton and Susannah Clements. He had a brother and two sisters, named Gerard William, Elizabeth and Jane.  He was the second oldest of the four children.  He died at the age of 19 in 1851.
