John was born in 1789 in Chipping Campden, Gloucestershire, , England.  John's father was George Manton and his mother was Susannah Clements.  His paternal grandfather was George Manton and his paternal grandmother is Jane Taylor. He had six brothers and two sisters, named William, William, George, John, Charles, Francis, Mary Ann and Elizabeth.  He was the fifth oldest of the nine children.  He died at the age of 3 on March 2nd, 1792 in Chipping Campden, Gloucestershire, , England.
