Gerard William was born on May 24th, 1839 in Chipping Camden, Gloucestershire, , England.  Gerard William's father was Charles Manton and his mother was Mary Chamberlain.  His paternal grandparents were George Manton and Susannah Clements. He had a brother and two sisters, named John Cornelius, Elizabeth and Jane.  He was the youngest of the four children.  He died at the age of 12 in 1851 in Chipping Camden, Gloucestershire, , England.
