May E was born in 1881 in Burwood, , New South Wales, Australia. May E's father was Charles Manton Keen and her mother was Elizabeth Edmondson. Her paternal grandparents were William Keen and Elizabeth Manton. She had a brother and four sisters, named Henry Charles, Florence Ada, Amy Hilda, Alice M and Elizabeth Mabel. She was the third youngest of the six children. She had four half-brothers and three half-sisters, named Jack Manton, Eric J, Allan Phillip, Noel Wilfred, Daisy H, May P and Rose I. She died at the age of 6 in 1887 in Burwood, , New South Wales, Australia.
